Not only the data on the phone that needs to be moved, WhatsApp users also need to transfer the old chat to a new place. So, users won't miss out on the important chats left on the old phone.
Nevertheless, not all WhatsApp users know how to transfer old data to a new place. For those who don't know, you can learn the following tips compiled from AndroidPit, Sunday (29/9/2019).
Move Old WhatsApp Chats to New Phone
1. Google Drive Backup and Restore
The latest version of WhatsApp brings the automatic capability of Google Drive backup, which makes the process of transferring history chats between phones easier. How?- -Tap The three dots located to the top left of the screen and go to Settings > Chats > Chat Backup.
- -From here, you can create a backup manually, or set it to automatically backup as desired. When WhatsApp is reinstalled, the app prompts you to restore your chats and multimedia from Google Drive.
- -Chat and contacts will appear in the app instantly. While the media will start downloading in the background.
2. Backup Chat and Restoring manually
If you haven't received a Google Drive WhatsApp update, you can manually create a backup and move it to a new phone.- -Open the Settings menu on WhatsApp, tap Chats and calls, then tap Chat Backup.
- -When old and new Android phones both use external SD card for memory, just make a backup to SD card and switch from old phone to new one. Restore from the SD card to the newly installed WhatsApp on your phone.
- -As for the phone that stores data to the internal memory, connect the smartphone to the PC via a USB cable. Then navigate the internal memory of the device to the WhatsApp/Database folder. This is where all backup files are saved with dates. They will look like ' Msgstore-2013-05-29. db. Crypt. ' Copy the file with the latest build date to your PC in an easy-to-find location.
- -Install WhatsApp on a new device but don't start the app.
- -Connect new devices to PC via USB. Since you already downloaded WhatsApp to the new handset, the WhatsApp/Database folder should already exist. If not, you can manually create a new Database folder in the WhatsApp folder.
- -Copy Backup WhatsApp conversations to this folder.
- -Now start WhatsApp to your new phone and verify your phone number. If you do this, you should get a backup notification message found. Just tap Restore and finish. After a few seconds, all your messages will appear on your new device.
Hopefully the above tips can help new smartphone owners to move WhatsApp chats on their old phones. Good luck!
